About Us

The club was founded in 2005 and since that date has grown from a small group training together to over forty students.
The approach is principle and skills based with an emphasis on exploring and making things work. Learning a martial art should promote good physical and mental health whilst at the same time arming the student with tools to better deal with difficult situations if they arise.
Sensei Ken’s parent style is Wado Ryu and this remains the core of training at the club. As a result of training in different martial arts and exploring them other elements are brought into the training schedule where they fit.

Sensei
Harding began training in Wado Ryu in Lancaster in 1982 under Sensei Jim Gladwin 2nd Dan. In 1987 he moved to Surrey and spent several years training sporadically in other styles always searching for the good Wado Ryu he had started with.Having not found it, he stoppped formal training altogether in 1992 but continued to practice kata and kihon alone at home. In 2001 he began training in Wado Ryu again with the WIKF under Senseis Dave Martin 2nd Dan and later Sensei Jon Wicks 7th Dan.In 2004 he graded to Shodan under Sensei Tatsuo Suzuki 8th Dan Hanshi. Finally in 2005 he founded this club having split away from the WIKF and affiliated to Shikon Budo Kai under the guidance of Steve Rowe 7th Dan Karate. Over the years he has trained with a number of eminent teachers in Wado Ryu and other martial arts to broaden his experience and understanding as far as possible. His own training now continues under the guidance of Sensei Rowe attending regular courses with him to further understand the art that is karate.Sensei Harding aims to teach Karate as something which can be enjoyed but which also will help people build their self confidence, self esteem and their ability to defend themselves if the need arisies. To this end he emphasises the learning of skilled natural movement and understanding of your own body mechanics to help achieve the best possible outcome.
