Childrens' Karate Classes

(Age 6 -13)

We aim to teach our younger students more than a simple set of physical exercises.

Our lessons emphasise

RESPECT - for self and for those around us
HEALTH - setting a pattern of exercise when young means the likelihood of a healthier life long term and as a result of getting a positive habit
SENSE of COMMUNITY - being part of a group which itself contributes to its community
STRANGER DANGER - a common sense approach for children living in today's world
ANTI BULLYING - be aggressive toward others is not the way to make the world more a better place to live.
That learning about these is FUN!

The lessons aim to bring about SKILL LEARNING which in itself requires patience, commitment, concentration and focus.

The physical karate training provides a sound basis to reinforce the key attributes. Grades carry through to the adult class though certain techniques are not taught to the very young for safety reasons. These are easily introduced when a child makes the transition to the adult class however as the foundation of principles and understanding are laid down from an early stage.

Sensei Harding completed a coaching Qualification through MASA and Shikon Martial Arts which covers

Child Protection
Martial Arts Coaching.

He has undergone a full enhanced CRB check and carries full instructor.

As a club, we encourage parents to be present when their children train as this gives a child a feeling of security during the lesson. Additionally parents gain an understanding of how the training is conducted. In this way the best interest of the child, parent and the instructor are protected and enhanced.
